SOLDIER
• ShinRa's elite fighting force. The SOLDIER project was modeled off of the early successes seen in Sephiroth. Through a combination of Mako treatments and the injection of JENOVA cells, SOLDIERS are granted super human abilities. Though the last is highly classified, unknown even to the SOLDIERs. The exact process is ShinRa's most highly guarded secret.
• SOLDIER has three classes 1st, 2nd, 3rd with the 1st class being the best of the best. Promotions are based on the recommendation of 1sts given to Director Lazard who then makes the final determination. However even making the ranks of 3rd class is a selective process. Candidates must be of suitable age, physical makeup, and intelligence to even be considered. Candidates are generally young, as young as 13/14 due to the ability of the body to adapt to JENOVA cells with a higher success rate.
• Many SOLDIERs went with Genesis when he defected, leaving the unit stretched thin. This only got worse when Angeal left as well, leaving Sephiroth as the only 1st Class SOLDIER until Zack Fair's promotion.
Current leader: None, Lazard vanished as did both Sephiroth and Zack Fair after they went off orders, journeying to Nibelheim instead of investigating Rocket Town for Avalanche operatives. It's left the unit in disarray and the upper echelons of Shinra, namely Scarlet, Heidegger, Palmer, currently vie to gain control of the once formidable fighting force. Genesis and Angeal have been declared KIA with Zack and Sephiroth currently listed as MIA, said to have been overwhelmed by the Avalanche terrorists. There are talks of doing away with the designation of SOLDIER all together and absorbing the remaining members into the regular military.
